Douglas Hofstadter is the most influential person on my thoughts. His work in “Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid” is what formed the foundations of my philosophy. “I am a Strange Loop” and “The Minds Eye” further cemented him as my favourite writer/thinker.
Richard Dawkins and Susan Blackmore gave me the concept of memetics, which suddenly made so much of the world comprehensible.
Robert Anton Wilson introduced me to the Discordianism of Malaclypse the Younger, and Omar Khayyam Ravenhearst.
Fiction is the lens that makes the subtleties of humanity/society visible. The science fiction of Kim Stanley Robinson and Ursula K. Le Guin make me happy about the future. Frank Herbert showed me what a long view of humanity could look like. Chuck Palahniuk’s dark, horrid, disgusting view on people is a cathartic poison in my worse times.
Lasts, I’ve been inspired to actually share my mind due to a series of vlogs I’ve watched over the past few years. The Vlog Brothers, PBS Idea Channel, Veritasium, Vi Hart, Shots of Awe, Laci Green, CGP Grey, Kurzgesagt, and many more. All are available on youtube for free.
